Refereeing

Refereeing is an essential part of the game, and like Coaches and Players, Referees
are athletes developing their craft. Pursuing a Referee career has provided many individuals with incredible working environments, world travel, and unique, transferable skillsets, including self-discipline, conflict management and resolution skills, multitasking and people management skills.

To become a Small Sided Referee, you must turn 12 years old in the current year. To become a Entry Level Referee, you must turn 14 years old by April 6, 2024.

How will I be scheduled for games?
You will be sent an email and asked about your availabilty for the season. The Referee Scheduler will make the schedule for the whole season based on the information sent from all referees. The schedule will be sent out for all referees to review and confirm/change any dates that do not work for them by emailing the Head Referee with their request. The Referee Scheduler will revise and resubmit to all for review and acceptance. 24 hours notice is required if you cannot make a game you are scheduled to attend or you can find a replacement for that game yourself. If alternate arrnagements have been made, you must email the Head Referee with the change so that the schedule stays up to date with the correct information.

What kind of support is there for officials?
All Senior officials will be assigned games with new referees. Mentoring occurs through these games as they working together. All Senior Officals will be giving feed back to all new Referees at the end of each game. With the advice of the Senior officials who work with the new referees we will be able to assess if the games we are assigning to the new referees are within their capabilities. The Head Referee will make a determination based on this information received.

If you would like to have a Mentor come out and see how you are doing please email the Head Referee and one will be scheduled to come out to your game. Each year there is one free assessment to each referee. An assessment is more involved than a mentoring session.  If you are interested in an assessment please email your Head Referee and one can be scheduled.

What else are Referees responsible for?
All Referees will submit a game report within 24 hours. The report will consist of the following information, in order: Date, Field Location, Time of Game, Age Group, Team A (Score), Team B (Score), Yellow Cards or Red Cards (if any), Referee Name, Assistant Referee 1 name (if required), Assistant Referee 2 name (if required). These reports are email to the Head Referee.
